Mallorca. As you know I’ve spend some time of my summer in Mallorca. A place I had doubts about how it is going to turn out. I thought it is just all dry land and party people everywhere I look. The island proved me wrong. It is a very beautiful place. When you move away from Palma up in the east the island is truly amazing. Mountains, the ocean, nature and green everywhere you look. Exactly all I needed to relax. Since I am not only a “I travel just to lay by the pool”-person, we explored the island. So here are my 10 things you must visit in Mallorca.
10 things you must visit in Mallorca
Port de Sóller (Harbor of Sóller)
The little town we stayed in was called Port de Sóller and was as the name says the harbor of the town Sóller. The town was a 10-15 min drive away and also very beautiful. Since I am a child of the ocean I just loved sitting by the harbor and watching the boots as well as swim in the sea. If you are ever on Mallorca and want to stay at a very calm and relaxing town – this is the place to be.
A true gem is San Marroig. You can’t see the manor from the street so you actually have to know where you are going, but thank good we have gps. This place is magical and has so much to offer – a museum, a monopteron, a secret garden and much more to see. The entrance fee was 4 euros but it was totally worth it.
I don’t know why but water has something magical. We spent some time at the reservoir where you could walk around very freely. There were also some really cute cows, calves and also donkeys. Cúber is the largest artificial water reservoir in Mallorca and is mainly there for the drinking water supply.
Palma de Mallorca has the most when it comes to architecture and history on Mallorca. We went through the whole city and enjoyed the Spanish way of construction. When we entered the Banys Arabs (Arabic Baths) I was surprised. There is a beautiful garden before you enter the ruins of the former baths. The entrance fee was 2.50 euro and was fine. Sadly we were there when it was super hot so we couldn’t stay there longer. It is great for a break.
Other great places to visit when in Palma de Mallorca:
- Catedral de Mallorca
- Passeig delt Murada
- Castell de Bellver
- Plaça Major
An orange and lemon orchard that made me so happy. It is definitely one of the places I would go and visit again even though nothing would have changed. I already told you about this place here. Read more if you haven’t yet.
If you go up country you will find one of the most beautiful villages in Spain. The rewarded little town is traditional with its red roofs and stone buildings. The town has beautiful stores to buy great majorcan clothes, oil and more. Since the village is on hills you have to walk up little stairs to get around.
May seem like something very controversial since Mallorca is know for being a party island. It is not. It has beautiful landscapes and great paths. No matter if you want to walk small tours or very long ones – there is something for everyone and the views from up top are just breathtaking.
I took this picture on the Mirador de Gorg Blau lookout.
Tren de Sóller
The wooded trains are worth a ride. The tram is one of the oldest in the world and so a great attraction. It goes from Port de Sóller to Sóller and the train goes from Sóller to Palma de Mallorca. The ride is a little bit pricey but really nice on a summer day. Not just history but also fun.
A great vacation is not complete for me with not going to local markets. No matter if it is a market with fresh fruit, vegetable and / or clothes. In Mallorca raffia baskets are everywhere and you can find really great ones. I also couldn’t resist. If you have the chance try local and seasonal food. It is delicious. Usually in every town is a market. In Sóller is a rather big one were we spent the morning. We also saw the fish and meat market there.
Sunsets are not only romantic but also very calming. I love to watch sunsets and I believe a lot of people do so. I found a really great spot in Sóller to watch the sun go down. No matter where you are in the world watch the sun rise and set as often as you can. So this is not only one of my top 10 things you must visit on Mallorca but also something for wherever you are.
I hope with these tips your time on Mallorca will be rich in variety. If you have more than 10 things you must visit in Mallorca let me and the everyone else know in the comments.
